ABOUT Centre for Foundation Studies

Centre for Foundation Studies, Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK-AsCent) is a new centre that established on 11 April 2023 through the upgrading process of the UMK Science Preparatory Department (JPSU). The main objective of the upgrading is to enable this department to have a more cohesive governance structure in coordinating and managing the admission intake of the SPM graduates into the pre-university feeder programmes offered by UMK-AsCent. These feeder programmes subsequently able to deal with the issues of quantity and quality of undergraduate students at UMK.

Throughout its operation until now, JPSU has successfully offered two feeder programmes, namely the Science Foundation Programme for 2 cohorts and the Science Pre-Degree Programme for 4 cohorts. At the same time, JPSU has also successfully branded the Science Foundation Programme as the most popular first choice among all foundation programmes offered by public universities in Malaysia, two years in a row. Apart from that, JPSU has also succeeded in increased number of intakes for the Science Pre-Degree Programme from one to two intakes per academic year, starting in 2022. In enabling this department to be upgraded to the UMK-AsCent, a new academic programme called Tahfiz Foundation Programme will be offered in July 2023.

Until 2030, UMK-AsCent will continue to grow through the development and offering of new foundation programmes that together contribute to the opportunities for SPM graduates from all streams to pursue their undergraduate studies at UMK.
