Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) is a unique university with a clear core focus on the development of entrepreneurship across various fields of study. This aspiration calls for the nurturing of students who not only excel academically, but also possess strong character, creative thinking, solid soft skills, and a high entrepreneurial spirit.
In line with this aspiration, the Centre for Foundation Studies, UMK (UMK-AsCent), plays a highly significant role as the starting point of the intellectual journey for SPM graduates. It is here that the foundation of knowledge is built, potential is refined, and personal values are strengthened in preparation for progression to undergraduate studies. UMK-AsCent is not merely a centre of learning, but a space for holistic human development encompassing academic excellence, character building, leadership, and critical thinking.
The establishment of UMK-AsCent represents a strategic initiative by the university to strengthen the continuity of the national entrepreneurship education agenda. Through the “feeder” concept, this centre prepares high-quality students who are fully equipped to enter various undergraduate programmes at UMK. This approach ensures The students that progress to the next level not only have a strong academic foundation, but also emotional maturity, resilience, and the ability to adapt to the increasingly dynamic landscape of higher education.
The rapid development of UMK-AsCent is also reflected based diversity of foundation programmes offered, aligned with current needs. The Foundation in Science Programme remains one of the top choices among students. At the same time, the introduction of the Huffaz Information Technology Foundation Programme beginning in the 2023/2024 session reflects efforts to produce a generation balanced between technological excellence and strong spiritual values. Furthermore, the offering of the Foundation in Social Science Programme for the 2025/2026 session demonstrates the university’s commitment to producing holistic graduates, encompassing the fields of social sciences, humanities, and entrepreneurship.
As the Director of UMK-AsCent, I am confident that this centre will continue to grow as a distinguished and competitive preparatory institution. With the strong support of the university management, the dedication of lecturers and staff, and the high level of commitment and teamwork among students, I believe UMK-AsCent will produce a generation that is not only knowledgeable, but also ethical, resilient, and ready to lead the future.
